An explanation of what an Immigration Bond is.
If you still have questions call us at 877-269-2434 for further help.
An immigration bond is a federal bond, not a state bond, which you may be responsible for posting if you have been detained and
arrested by the bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It is a lot different than being arrested by your city or other local
authorities. In the case of immigration bonds it is the Federal government with which you are dealing, not the State or Local government.
The bond is put up to assure the courts that the person who has been arrested and detained will show up for all scheduled court proceedings.
It also guarantees that the detainee will not become a burden on the state. In other words if a detainee on bond gets injured and is taken to
the hospital, all costs incurred by the city, county or state can be passed on to the Surety company that issued the original bond.
Because of the greater liability imposed on the bond producer, the fees that are charged to process Immigration Bonds are often much higher than
those for normal Bail Bonds. These fees are often fifteen to twenty percent of the bond amount, versus the average ten percent of regular bail bonds.
The immigration bond process can be quite different from the usual Bail Bond process. First of all, if you
are posting a cash bond, it will go directly to the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, not the local jail or court. Secondly,
in order to have money issued for an immigration bond, one must go through a bail bondsman or bail bond company which is licensed to handle
immigration bonds. Not all bail bondsmen are licensed to do this, we specialize in Immigration Bonds.
The issuing of immigration bonds can also be a difficult process due to the number of offices which have to be involved and working with all of
their different hours of operation. Not only does one have to find a licensed bail bond company,
we're open 24 hours, to help with the issuing of
an immigration bond, but you must also know the hours of the INS and Bureau of Immigration and Custom Enforcement.
